HayDetective

Privacy Policy

Last updated September 10, 2026

HayDetective is a marketplace where cavy and rabbit breeders list animals and buyers find them. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

  • Account details. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that service. If you register with an email address, we store your email and your password. Passwords are stored only as a salted one-way hash, never in readable form.
  • Seller profiles. If you apply to sell, we store your caviary or rabbitry name, bio, city, state, postal code, website, and profile photo.
  • Listings. The animal details, photos, prices, and locations you post.
  • Messages. Messages you send to and receive from other members.
  • Orders and payments. When payments are available, card payments are handled by Stripe. We store order amounts and Stripe reference numbers. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Security records. Sign-in activity, such as successful and failed sign-ins, along with the IP address and email address involved, so we can protect accounts from misuse.

How we use it

  • To run the marketplace: show listings, connect buyers and sellers, and deliver messages.
  • To send account emails, such as email verification and password resets.
  • To keep accounts secure and to prevent fraud and abuse.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

What other members can see

Listings and seller profiles are public, including the seller name, city and state, bio, and photos. Messages are shared only with the other person in the conversation.

Services we use

We share information only with the providers that help us run HayDetective, and only what they need:

  • Microsoft Azure hosts our servers, database, and photo storage.
  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Resend delivers our account emails.
  • Google and Facebook handle sign-in, if you choose to use them.
  • Stripe processes payments, when payments are available.
  • When you choose a password, we check it against a database of passwords exposed in data breaches. Only the first five characters of a one-way hash are sent for that check. Your password never leaves our servers.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your information within 30 days, except records we must keep by law, such as completed payment records.

Your choices

  • You can update your profile and listings at any time.
  • You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing privacy@haydetective.com. See how to delete your data.
  • You can disconnect HayDetective from your Google or Facebook account in that service's settings.

Security

All traffic to HayDetective is encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are hashed, and access to our systems is limited to the people who run the site. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children

HayDetective is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we will let members know by email or on the site.
